They are FAST, LETHAL, and very, very AGGRESSIVE. The Black Mamba is the longest lethal snake reaching 14 ft long, and traveling at speeds of 12.5 to 20 mph. They are called the Black Mamba  because of their mouths ( which are black ) not their gray skin. When they are small their color is light, and darken as they age.

They usually live in hollow trees, termite mounds, or even in trees. If they sense danger they will try to run away (which they can do very fast.) They eat warm-blooded mammals like rodents, ground squirrels, hyraxes, and other small mammals. Sometimes they eat birds, but it's rare for a Black Mamba to eat other reptiles!
