Tigers are known for their thick orange-tawny coats, gleaming amber-gold eyes, black to brown stripes, long whip-like tail, and their claws. The tigers always keep their claws extremely sharp for any battles and hunting. They are also known for their long canine teeth. They are like most cats except that they like water. Though tigers are great they are becoming extinct. In 1900 there were over 100,000 tigers in Asia, and eight subspecies. Though now three subspecies are extinct. The causes of this are people hunting them, and the pollution hurting the habitat they live in. Most tigers live in the forest were they have food, shelter and water to survive. They are strong swimmers, and are often found bathing in ponds, lakes, and rivers. They mark their territory in which they live. They mark it by scratching the trees around it. They also mark the territory by leaving a type of smell telling other tigers that the area is taken. They also hunt alone to prevent making noise. They like to hunt deer, somber, elk, chital, wild pigs, and buffalo. Tigers are great animals lets help protect them.
